Should Nintendo make Apps?

Imagine playing Mario on the device you ALWAYS have on you…your smartphone - whether that be an iPhone, Android device, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry. The iPhone is dwarfing the sales of the 3DS (http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/26/2976735/nintendo-sales-stats-handheld-gaming-report) and some are calling for Nintendo to reevaluate its strategy. Seeing Mario, Zelda, and Metroid on a device made by Apple, Samsung, or Nokia might seem strange, but a touch variant of the various franchises might be beneficial for Nintendo; even a supplementary version that complements the main adventure that you would play on the WiiU could be a possibility.

Of course, this talk might be premature - the GameBoy line was pretty dead until Nintendo launched the DS line…the 3DS is just another iteration of the DS - could it be time to launch a totally new portable line or maybe even bring back the gameboy?
